Dr. Thomas began her education with a degree in chemistry, awarded cum laude, from Wagner College in New York. She then received her medical degree from the prestigious University of Southern California. She completed her general surgery residency at the Jewish Hospital of Cincinnati, serving as Chief Resident.
Born and raised through childhood in Guyana, Dr. Thomas had first planned to pursue a career in tropical medicine. During her initial residency, she had the opportunity to observe firsthand the growing interest in plastic surgery. She saw an opportunity to bring a woman’s unique perspective to the field, choosing to complete post-graduate fellowships in microsurgery and plastic surgery at Kettering Medical Center/Wright State University in Ohio. While there, she established the Microsurgery Research Laboratory.
Dr. Thomas began in private practice in 1988. Since then, she has treated thousands of women and men, deriving great satisfaction from, as she puts it, “Seeing spirits soar!” When you listen to each one, understand their goals, consult with them about the options and deliver to their expectations, she says it’s a great experience for both patient and surgeon. “After all,” notes Dr. Thomas, “it’s not really about the surgery. The important thing is how my patients’ results boost their feelings about themselves. It’s wonderful to have the chance to help each one.”
Dr. Thomas has dual certification from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic surgery. She holds membership in a dozen professional societies such as the American Society of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American College of Surgeons. She stays current by taking continuing education courses and traveling to professional meetings regularly.
Dr. Thomas relocated to Florida recently, joining the Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery. An avid amateur photographer, she enjoys the rich, colorful life of her adopted state.
